road trip to wrightsville!

on monday after “wedding week” my BFF nicole and i drove to wilmington so she could have a meeting with the people she will be working for. after her interview, we had SUCH a nice day! she has been an expat for more than 5 years, so its so nice having her home for a little while! it felt like we were in high school-just road tripping, stopping to take pictures, eating, laughing and singing at the top of our lungs in the car. i loved every minute of it!
we stopped for lunch at oceanic, and ate right on the water…
after lunch we drove into downtown wrightsville and explored a little bit…
i love having my pea home!
trip to greenville

a few weeks ago i drove down to see husby in greenville, sc where he is working right now. i actually really like the city of greenville. it has a very mom and pop, indie feel which i love!
there is a new park in downtown called falls river park, and i had the best time exploring it- once while husby was at work, and again before our dinner date one night. it actually reminded me of a teeny tiny central park!…
after dinner, we discovered a children’s garden under the highway and i absolutely fell in love. i want one in my backyard!…
love the murals on the columns!
we made friends with this little duck couple, they followed us everywhere…
on monday before matt headed to work and i headed to raleigh, we stopped at earth fare for a veggie juice date…
i loved getting some quality time with my husby! i miss this face during the week when he is gone!
welcome to miami!

our family got invited to the bar mitzvah of a dear friend of the family, but mom and dad were out of town, so husby and i went to represent the winters clan. i am SO glad we did because it was a FABULOUS party and such a fun weekend!!
we arrived late on friday night, and went straight to find something for dinner. we stumbled upon a sushi bar that was open till 5am. not only was it very chic and swanky, they had a DJ spinning tunes AND they served cotton candy after your meal. so cooL!
after dinner we headed to check into our beautiful hotel…
loved our pink desk chair…
the next morning we headed up to hollywood for the mitzvah…
on our way to the temple we passed these 4 old men riding their bikes in their resort wear. so cute!
beautiful temple doors…
matt was SO excited to get to wear a yarmulke! and he got to keep it! even better!
the ceremony was so lovely. we really enjoyed seeing the jewish traditions and hearing all the torah readings…
when we left the ceremony, matt was drooling over this lambo in the parking lot…
however, i was drooling over this baby…
after the mitzvah, we drove up the coast in our rented cadillac and found a taco shack on the beach(appropriately named taco beach shack) where we had incredible fish tacos…
the party that night was ridiculous. it was nicer than most weddings i have been to… they sure know how to party in miami!
everything had a “pirates of the caribbean theme”…
i loved doing the jewish dances and yelling mazel tov!
jacob, the guest of honor!
larry, one of my dads best friends from high school, jacobs dad…
the “teen lounge” with fake fire pits and couches…
mechanical shark!…
we definitely made use of the photo booth!
the next morning we drove back up the coast to have brunch with the goldman family.
i love miami’s architecture…
before brunch we stopped for a walk on the boardwalk where we stumbled upon a juice bar at the farmers market! i was so excited to get a giant glass of green juice!
our beautiful view at brunch…
after brunch we drove back down to south beach to explore. there was gorgeous scenery the whole way…
loved seeing boats on the water literally inches away from the cars…
when we got to south beach i absolutely fell in love with the colors!
we had to at least walk out onto the infamous south beach, even if we didnt get to spend much time there…
love this sherbert colored lifeguard stand!
i think i loved this vintage pink car even more though! i want one!
we had a blast in miami, and i cant wait to spend more time there some day!
meeting baby campbell!

matts sister had a sweet baby girl in january, and we finally got to meet her a couple of weeks ago!
matt and i flew in late friday night so the party started saturday morning when we had brunch at the grand hotel. its a gorgeous historic hotel and the food is delicious!…
we met campbell at breakfast- she is so tiny and precious!…
we had a little photo shoot out on the lawn after brunch…
unfortunately, after we took this cute photo- there was a diaper explosion. we definitely had a good laugh at poor mitch’s expense.
while jill cleaned up baby campbell, we enjoyed the hotel grounds…
we spent the rest of the morning at the fairhope arts and craft festival.
like everything in fairhope, it was awesome. food, arts and crafts, live music, doggies, southern belles, what more could you ask for!?
husby bought me a painting for our living room! i love how cheerful it is…
that night matt and uncle jimbob grilled out dinner and we had a family photo shoot for mitch and jill and campbell…
the sky was so pretty, husby and i had to get a shot, too…
by the way, this is what happens when you ask my husband to take a test shot… ridiculous.
on sunday, matt, uncle jimbob, aunt betty and i went for a bikeride on our favorite path. i LOVE these huge old houses on the water. so pretty…
the rest of the afternoon we spent some quality time with baby campbell…
before our flight we went to big daddys for lunch. they were giving away free crawfish for their anniversary! everyone was in hog heaven! (i only had a couple- i like them, but not like matts family. im not quite cajun enough :))
it was such a great trip- short but full of fun! we loved meeting baby campbell and we cant wait to see her again at her baptism!
Madrid! Day 1
Posted in Uncategorized, tagged travel on February 19, 2012| 1 Comment »
We made it to Madrid after a nice little international overnight flight. I packed myself a little healthy snack bag, we watches two movies I wanted to see(ides of march and moneyball) and woke up to a beautiful sunrise over the Spanish coast
We met up with Nicole and Manuel at our beautiful hotel(and got a room upgrade! Score!) and freshened up a bit before hitting the road to explore
. We grabbed some Madridcards and started getting aquainted with this beautiful city
Lunch at the adorable Delic Cafe. We had our first taste of Spanish jamon(ham) and let me tell you- we are hooked! (I don’t eat ham often, but apparently in Spain I do!)
after lunch we kept exploring- sleek metro station…
we took a cable car ride to get a view of the city…
. We stopped for a coffee and tea pick-me-up…
<br
/>Another beautiful metro station!
We didn’t make it to the royal
Palace in time to tour it yesterday but we did make it in time to see the sun setting and putting a beautiful golden glow on everything…
.
My phone died so I don’t have pics of our tapas crawl later that night but I will certainly post them later! We are off for another day of adventure! Ciao!
Hasta Luego!

Virgin Gorda! Day 8
Posted in Uncategorized, tagged family, travel on November 26, 2011| Leave a Comment »
today was a really fun day! ricky, caitlyn, matt lee, and husby went diving at the “wreck of the rhone”, and i snorkeled (thats a funny word) 🙂 …
the crew showing us a map of the wreck. such a sad story, but also very fun to explore!
ready to hit the water!
the divers heading to the bottom…
caitlyn and maja(the instructor)…
ricky and matt…
the wreck was really cool, you could see the “lucky porthole” where one survivor escaped from cabin 26, the tile floor that came from the dance hall or kitchen, the engine box, and all sorts of neat things! its hard to see them in the photos, but it was crystal clear in the water!
we worked up quite an appetite with all that excitement so we headed straight to dinner with the rest of the family. the restaurant overlooked all of the surrounding islands, and it was really beautiful…
the funniest thing was happening in the tree next to the deck where we were sitting. there are roosters and chickens ALL over the island. well about sunset this rooster started cock-a-doodle-dooing all crazy and all the little lady chickens came up to this tree and nested down for the night! it was really cute. then it looked like chickens were growing on this tree so we started calling it the chicken tree. the photo is dark but you can kind of see all the chickens…
after dinner, there was a cat just walking around the dining room, just chillin. we asked the waitress what his name was and she said ” da kitty”. well, da kitty loved da matt! 🙂 he has a new little furry friend…
another great day! i am so sad matt and i are leaving tomorrow 😦
Virgin Gorda! Day 7
Posted in Uncategorized, tagged family, travel on November 25, 2011| Leave a Comment »
yesterday the whole family plus the ayers went back to the baths to explore…
snorkeling in the baths…
i LOVED this big ball of coral on the ocean floor. the texture was amazing!…
matt is such a little explorer, he loves to climb up things and jump off things and swim through things. he fits in very well with my brothers! 🙂
its so cool being in the water and looking up and seeing beautiful rock sculptures like this…
we had so much fun having the ayers kids there, they were so excited and so adventurous! they were climbing the rocks like little monkeys and swimming like little fish 🙂
we worked up quite and appetite playing so hard, so we went to the “top of the baths” for brunch. the view was just wonderful…
virgin painkillers, an island specialty and our favorite! (its just orange juice, pineapple juice and coconut syrup- yum!)
after refueling with a great breakfast, we went back to the house to play on the private beach…
there was another beautiful sunset last night…
husby and i went swimming in the bay right after i took this photo. the light was just amazing and we love floating in the water, watching the sun go down. its so peaceful…
for dinner husby and i went to a little restaurant called mermaids. it was right on the water, with a dock for people to bring their boats and they had a little rooftop deck. no one else was there so we had the rooftop deck all to ourselves. it was pretty much a perfect island date night :)…
…actually it was pretty much a perfect island day!
Virgin Gorda! Day 6
Posted in Uncategorized, tagged family, thanksgiving, travel on November 25, 2011| 1 Comment »
thanksgiving morning we woke up bright and early so we could explore the baths, one of virgin gordas main attractions. the baths are these HUGE rock formations that sit right in the water and make a natural playground.
the ayers family joined us to celebrate thanksgiving and while we waited for them to get here, we splashed around in the water for a bit…
playing with the awesome ayers kids…
our thanksgiving dinner was prepared by a private chef, chef mimi. she was so sweet and it felt like grandma was cooking in the kitchen because you could tell she made the food with love. and she made ALOT of it…
just in case you need a close-up of that turkey…
we were treated to the most beautiful sunset i think i have ever seen. it rained for a few minutes right before dinner, and when the rain stopped the sky lit up this brilliant orange and pink color. it was the perfect backdrop to start our meal, and definitely reminded me we have so much to be thankful for!
after dinner we played tennis, watched football and a charlie brown thanksgiving, and then went to bed full, happy and full of thanks! 🙂
