back in november, michelle came over for some christmas crafting and we had so much fun….and made quite the mess 🙂

i wanted to make some little favors for my christmas party, and when i saw these on one of my favorite blogs Giverslog, i knew they would be something fun to give as treats! i wont give the instructions here, because she explains it so well… but definitely go check out AmberLee’s blog and flip through some of her other posts! she has some great ideas!

here are a few pics of the messy fun!

michelle mixing up the chocolate with enthusiasm!

IMG_3420

mmm…chocolately goodness!

IMG_3415

it never fails! i cant ever bake…or cook…or really do anything without making a huge mess!

IMG_3423

almost ready!

IMG_3425

of course we had to taste test the different flavors! (we made peppermint, cinnamon, and dark chocolate- peppermint was my favorite, as usual!)

flurries!

we have had flurries a few times this year already but i feel like tonight is the first snow! we will have to wait and see in the morning but it sure is coming down! we took a little family walk around the block… i only had my phone so you cant really see the snow, but the city lights were so pretty i thought i would share anyways 🙂

they were filming a new harold and kumar movie on the next street so we watched them loading equipment for a moment…

on friday sarah, matt and i took a swing dance class at our YMCA, and we had so much fun!

IMG_3510

there were more women than men, and the men switched partners alot, so sarah and i danced together most of the time, haha. it was fun though, shes a great partner!

IMG_3512

i was so proud of matt, he did really well!

IMG_3511

on the way home we admired all the christmas lights strung up around lincoln center…

Sinterklaas!

so our neighbor, sarah, is from holland and on tuesday she invited us to a sinterklaas party! sinterklaas is sort of similar to santa claus, except hes a bishop from spain(weird, right?) and he comes on december 5th!

on the night of the 5th “someone” dropped off a bag of dutch treats and a poem inviting us to the party. it was filled with lots of goodies including marzipan, chocolate letters, tiny gingerbread cookies(my new favorite!) and taitai bread in the shape of bishop sinterklaas 🙂

photo.JPG

photo.JPG

we met her at the netherland club(which was in the same building as the national republican womens club, where i went to hear lee kessler speak) and enjoyed lots of yummy gingerbread cookies and some dutch christmas songs 🙂

there he is! sinterklaas, himself!

on monday, matt and i had a fun little night out. it was one week until our anniversary of getting engaged (5 december’s ago matt proposed to me on an ice skating rink in chicago :)) so we decided to celebrate by marking ice skating off our list of things to do in NYC! all the times ive visited, and now living here and i STILL hadnt skated at rockefeller center. well now i can say i have!

we started with dinner at a moroccan restaurant near port authority. we had never had moroccan but we love middle eastern food so we thought we would give it a shot!

DSC_2623

i LOVED the decor. on the side of the table against the wall they had pillows and cushions to sit on. it was so cozy! i also love the colors and lanterns.

DSC_2621

DSC_2622

the food was really good! they served it in these clay pots. mine had a little hat on it and matts had parchment paper that they had to cut into to serve it. unfortunately i didnt get my camera out fast enough but i did get a really bright shot of my chicken with my phone 🙂

photo.JPG

(it wasnt really yellow in real life, it was just a chicken. it tasted way better than that picture looks :))

after a yummy dinner with LOTS of mint tea, we headed over to rockefeller center to do some skating!

we did pretty good..you know the 5 times we went around the rink 🙂 matt kept telling me to “look up and enjoy the ambience!”, haha! it really was gorgeous skating under the tree! we almost went a few weeks ago but im glad we waited for the tree to go up. it made it pretty magical.
