for memorial day weekend, husby and took a trip down to the lowcountry to explor charleston, sc and savannah, ga. i haven’t been to charleston since i was about 15 and i’ve only driven through savannah. husby had never been to either so i figured it was a good first road trip since moving back south 🙂

i took ALOT of pictures (imagine that!) so im going to break it up into a few different posts.

first up…charleston!

we drove to charleston on thursday night, and friday matt had to finish up some work so i explored king street on my own that morning…ie took lots of pictures of buildings!

i loved the weathering on this building. i want to paint a piece of furniture like this!

love the stripey accent on those windows!

and the green…

matt met me for lunch at burger babies, where all the burgers are sliders…tiny and delicious!

we walked around king street a little bit and stopped in at the savannah bee company. we had planned to go in savannah(duh) but ended up there anyways and loved it!

we walked around the historic waterfront district for a few house before our dinner reservations…

i loved what i saw when we came out the other side…

we took a tour of a historic home on a whim, and it was really cool!

the gardens…

there were no pictures allowed, but of course i snuck one…

we ate dinner at an adorable place called “hominy grill” we heard about it when food network named their shrimp and grits their favorite in america.

i loved the tin ceiling and the chalkboard menus…

after dinner we drove to savannah for the next part of our adventure!

at the end of the weekend we stopped in charleston on the way home specifically to eat lunch at HUSK.

…which is my new favorite southern restaurant! this place was AWESOME! all the ingredients in the kitchen come from below the mason-dixon line. if its not from the south, it doesnt come through the door! they have a big chalkboard sign when you come in the door and it says where each ingredient has come from, for example: grits….such and such farm in NC. so cool!

the restaurant was in a renovated historic home with a big front porch, which is where our table was…

after that awesome lunch we drove about an hour away to pick up hexie, and then headed back to raleigh.
