this weekend we flew down to gulf shores, al for the hangout music festival with matts family! it was a huge festival right on the beach, which was just gave it such a great atmosphere π
on friday husby was finishing up some work projects so i hung out and read by the water…which was pretty easy since our condo was right on the beach!
that afternoon we went to wentzells for “oyster happy hour”. its a little tradition we have with matts family. usually we go to the one in fairhope right across from their house, but there happens to be one in gulf shores, too! perfect! π
friday night we headed over to the fest!
it was really cool, sitting on the beach, soaking in the sun, listening to music. there were about 35,000 other people who thought it was pretty cool too…
there was a beautiful sunset that night, the perfect ending to the start of our trip π
saturday we went to lunch at lulu’s, (jimmy buffetts sister’s restaurant). it was so cute and colorful!
the restaurant is right on the water!
it was delicious! we’ve been trying to get there since matts parents bought their beach house a few years ago. i am SO glad we finally made it! so yummy!
after that great lunch we headed over to hangout fest to hear cee-lo green!
he was late, so the foo fighters came on to do a cover set instead. they covered some classic rock like “schools out for summer” and tom petty…then cee-lo came out and sang one of their songs with them! it was so awesome!
this is everyone dancing to “forget you”…so many people!
that night the foo fighters headlined, and it was a pretty awesome rock show. the crowd was slightly nuts-o though so even though the music was good, the people watching was even better!
lots of girls hula-hooping…you know…with fire…
you cant really tell in this pic, but everyone made these lounge chairs out of the sand…so clever…
this was our view, we sat far back on purpose so we could have some room. we sat right on a fence with the ocean behind us, and it was a pretty rad atmosphere. great music and the ocean, on a perfect beach night…awesome.
sunday was much more low-key. there were some smaller bands playing in the morning and we really enjoyed listening to them. we just hung out with matts parents for a few sets until it was time to head to the airport…
listening to roman street, a local band that chief loves…
this was the “water filling station”. they would spray you with water and fill up your water bottles with ice cold h2o. this was a GREAT feature since it was so hot under that sun, and hardly any shade anywhere. also, yes, that girl is wearing fairy wings. she was one of the more normal people at the fest π
“hang loose at hangout”
it was such a great weekend, and im so glad we got to go! i am also so proud of us for not getting sunburned at all! π after 3 days in the sun i was so impressed with us! π
That sand in beautiful. The crowd…haha…awesome im sure. Hullahooping with fire never sounds like a good idea. But that could just be me π
