on sunday (july 4th) we decided to spend the day at niagara falls. we had heard you need to see them from both the canadian side, and the NY side, so thats what we did.
first we stopped by a couple of little state parks along the way….
…the rapids were incredible…and it was cool knowing canada was just across the river.
so then we crossed the border into the canada side of the falls….see, heres me with canadian money…
it was super crowded, and we didnt want to find parking so we each took turns driving the car along the strip and letting the other one walk over and see the falls. then we left the car running with the hazards, and we both jumped out so we could get a picture of the two of us together. it was cracking me up…clearly not the proper way to see the falls, but it worked! and the picture was totally worth it!
when it was my turn to get out and look i got some shots…it was incredible feeling the mist from so far away…those are some POWERFUL waterfalls!
after eating korean food for lunch, we crossed back over to NY, and immediately headed to “twist of the mist” for ice cream! cutest ice cream shop ever! 🙂
we parked at niagara state park, and explored a little…
it was cool because on the canada side you got a great view of both falls, and on the ny side you were so close you could feel the power. very neat seeing from both vantage points!
we walked back over to the main park and found a good spot for watching the fireworks…
…pretty good view 🙂
we sat and read and picniced for about 4 hours before it got dark. it was nice just sitting in the sun and enjoying the weather. all roxie wanted to do was chase seagulls. people probably thought she was the most vicious dog around because she kept trying to attack the birds
finally it got dark, and the show began…it was absolutely stunning when they illuminated the falls with color…
and then the fireworks!
it was such a great day, and we finished it off by getting the last 3 slices of the night at the pizza shop in the little town we stayed in. it was a close call…we almost didnt get dinner… we arent used to places closing before 9pm!
the next day we reluctantly headed back home, but not before stopping in buffalo for the “original” buffalo wings at anchor bar…
you could say we liked them a little bit…
seriously…SUCH a great trip. i love our adventures!
The Roxie unsure pic is the cutest thing EVER. No seriously.
So pretty! I haven’t ever been. And total side note…the falls and that boat so close to them…makes me think of Jim and Pams wedding from The Office. Ha!
